Why are mini Gaudens so cheap?

They're .5 gram and at least 8k, up to 23k. Assuming 8k, at today's spot, they should each be worth $4.35. But they go on eBay for $0.99 or $1.50. What am I missing?

I believe they are gold-plated

Hmmm. That makes sense. Most auctions do not say they are plated, some even saying they're solid, but saw a couple that did say plated.

I knew this was the place to ask. Thanks!

I got suckered into buying 2 of these....$1.99 with free shipping I said why not. They look decent in person but just touching one you can feel that it feels cheap...took on to my local guy after looking at it with another guy for about 10minutes they came back and said it wasn't worth a penny.

Unfortunately I left mine in Vegas...they are about 1/2 the size of a dime in both diameter and thickness.
